About this Engaged Anthropology Blog
During Spring Semester of 2013, Skidmore College’s senior anthropology majors participated in a public and engaged anthropology seminar. After considerable discussion, students agreed that a defining goal of engaged anthropology involves bringing anthropology’s theories, concepts, and findings to a wider audience beyond the faculty and students in the department. Particular projects present information and format intended for specific audiences.
When considering how to reach a wider audience, anthropology students decided to develop a blog and use the internet and social media. This blog began as a place for students to share their research findings, but upon further discussion students decided that expand the blog's purpose to inform the community about presentations and other news from the anthropology department. The blog also invites alumni to post how they practice anthropology in their current lives.
